Less than Five Months Left for Hospitals to Comply with the Affordable Care Act

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) proposes that qualified health plans may only contract with hospitals of more than 50 licensed beds by January 1, 2017 as long as the following are in place:

  • utilizes a patient safety evaluation system as defined in 42 CFR 3.20 [this means that it reports to a PSO]; and Implements a mechanism for comprehensive person-centered hospital discharge to improve care coordination and health care quality for each patient; or
  • Implements an evidence-based initiative, to improve health care quality through the collection, management and analysis of patient safety events that reduces all cause preventable harm, prevents hospital readmission, or improves care coordination.

Patient Safety Evaluation System (PSES) templates are available to CHPSO members and getting set up with the data submission process through NextPlane Solutions is a matter of a few hours. For any questions, please contact info@chpso.org.
