Patient safety is a major initiative in health care. Increasing
member awareness of patient safety issues and providing
neurologists with tools and programs to enhance patient safety
can:
Improve patient care
Facilitate the creation of more efficient office practices
We aim to improve the lives of patients, the health of
communities, and the joy of the health care workforce by focusing
on an ambitious set of goals adapted from the Institute of
Medicine’s six improvement aims for the health care system:
Safety, Effectiveness, Patient-Centeredness, Timeliness,
Efficiency, and Equity. We call this the “No Needless List”:
ECRI Institute is an independent nonprofit organization whose
mission is to benefit patient care by promoting the highest
standards of safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness in
healthcare. We accomplish this through our research, publishing,
education, and consultation.
To implement the Patient Safety Act, the Department of Health and
Human Services issued the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement
Final Rule (Patient Safety Rule). The Agency for Healthcare
Research and Quality (AHRQ) administers the provisions of the
Patient Safety Act and the Patient Safety Rule dealing with PSO
operations. This PSO Web site is designed to give you an
understanding of the:
Delivering the right care at the right time in the right setting
is the core mission of hospitals across the country. The AHA is
committed to helping members improve the quality of care they
deliver every day. We do so by providing information and
assistance on how to improve care and by working with federal
lawmakers, regulators and research agencies to create a policy
environment on which quality and safety can thrive.
The goal of the Safety Web site is to assemble timely information
and technical resources that help busy healthcare professionals
effectively tackle the challenge of preventing medical errors and
fostering a safe and healthy healthcare environment for everyone
— from patients and workers to the public. The information on
our Web site is developed and updated frequently by a
professional team with a combined experience of close to 100
years in healthcare.
The Patient Safety Council has been working to improve patient
safety since 2005. Members include representatives from all
facilities, all disciplines, and all departments in San Diego and
Imperial Counties. The Patient Safety Council reviews literature,
applies process improvement tools, and shares the best practices
to obtain consensus in building a comprehensive set of
recommendations to improve patient care.
The NCPS was established in 1999 to develop and nurture a culture
of safety throughout the Veterans Health Administration. Our goal
is the nationwide reduction and prevention of inadvertent harm to
patients as a result of their care. Patient safety managers at
153 VA hospitals and patient safety officers at 21 VA regional
headquarters participate in the program.
As the only WHO Collaborating Centre dedicated solely to patient
safety, the Joint Commission and JCR/JCI further advance the
entire continuum of patient safety including principles related
to system design and redesign, product safety, safety of
services, and environment of care, as well as offering proactive
solutions for patient safety, whether based on empirical
evidence, hard research or best practices.
The program, WHO Patient Safety, aims to coordinate, disseminate
and accelerate improvements in patient safety worldwide. It also
provides a vehicle for international collaboration and action
between WHO Member States, WHO’s Secretariat, technical experts,
and consumers, as well as professionals and industry groups. Each
year, WHO Patient Safety delivers a number of programs covering
systemic and technical aspects to improve patient safety around
the world.
