What is a Safe Table and who should attend?

A Safe Table is a forum where health care professionals within the CHPSO membership have frank, confidential discussions about quality and patient safety issues. Patient Safety, Quality, and Risk Management leaders from your facility are encouraged to attend.

These discussions are driven by attendee participation. Attendees present one case for 3-5 minutes to share with the group. The case involves a situation in which there are systematic concerns or the hospital may be looking for ways to address the matter or obtain advice.

Although we will only have time for a few cases, all attendees must come prepared to discuss their organization’s experience with this topic. The value of this session comes from the expression of multiple viewpoints and experiences on the topic. The moderator may call on specific attendees to share their experiences and insights. CE Notice:

CHPSO is an approved continuing education (CE) provider by the California Board of Registered Nursing and will provide CHPSO members an opportunity to earn CEs. Provider Number CEP16084 for 2 contact hours.

CHPSO does not currently offer ACPE approved Pharmacy CE, but the State of California will accept CE from courses which have been approved for continuing education by the Medical Board of California, the California Board of Podiatric Medicine, the California Board of Registered Nursing or the Dental Board of California towards their California continuing education requirement (Section 1732.2(b) of the California Code of Regulations). At the conclusion of the safe table meeting, participants will be able to:

  • Describe information about best practices relative to patient safety.
  • Discuss challenges in a frank, open discussion with other hospitals.
  • Describe lessons learned from other organizations as it could relate to the work in the participant’s hospital.
